Got the idea for this image by a piece of text i read by Douglas R. Hofstadter, when he was reflecting on "The riddle of the universe and it's solution", a story by Christopher Cherniak.
"Our consious thoughts seem to come bubbling up from subterranean caverns of our mind, images flood into our mind's eye without our having any idea where they came from! Yet when we publish them, we expect that WE - not our subconscious structures - will get credit for our thoughts. This dichotomy of the creative self into a conscious part and an unconscious part is one of the most disturbing aspects of trying to understand the mind. If - as was just asserted - our best ideas come bubbling up as if from mysterious underground springs, then who really are we ? Where does the creative spirit really reside ? Is it by an act of WILL that we create, or are we just automata made out of biological hardware, from birth until death fooling ourselves through idle chatter into thinking that we have "free will" ? If we ARE fooling ourselves about all these matters, then whom - or what - are we fooling ?"
Thank you so much for viewing and all of your comments. And if you came so far, for reading this puzzling text ;-))

Great image to go with the provocative quandry and reflection. From a technical standpoint, we are all changing fractionally from one micro-moment to the next (and probably in between); so you might say we never exist long enough as completely stable entities to know ourselves completely. Perhaps it is the search, the process, and the questioning that are most important and not the finding, end result or answer. All knowledge is temporal, limited and illusory - even the great edifice of knowledge called science changes with time (and with greater frequency as time progresses). Ah, the human condition which you image so welll! VOTE
