Description

It was in Glenfinan that the young prince unfurled the royal standard of the Stewarts in the presence of Glenaladale, Loch Shiel, Glengarry, Lochiel and other Highland and Lowland noblemen and clan chiefs. After landing here in Glenfinan (they had several failed attempts to cross from France) Bonnie Prince Charlie apparently marched to Edinburgh to proclaim his father as King. After a victory over the British General, Sir John Cope, he marched as far south as Derby. It was said that King George II of england was in London preparing to pack his bags as the rebellion moved south. The young pretenders son realised he would not get the support he anticipated in northern England and retreated. Meanwhile, the government had called back troops from the continent and followed the Stuart supporters back into Scotland. Charles' army stood again, but this time at the ill fated Culloden. ~@~ Shame about the Scottish football team of 1745 which got gubbed 3 -0 by the English as usual!!!

from what I've heard, the Scots didn't have a chance, and the English broke them completely..but then, NC is full of refugee descendants from that time..we could be a bit biased..;) great pic.

Nice shot, complete with scotch mist. Hey, we just held Spain to a one-all draw (maybe we should play all our matches over 59 minutes.)

They made him 'think again' says the anthemn.. Falkirk 0 vs Rangers 9 .What a perfect spot for a monument, worth a trip up there too, I suspect! The hillside shrouded in mist in the background looks bonny too!
