Description
An oldie steam train I came across while up in the Lakes, Cumbria, UK - The line runs for several miles and starts at the vary edge of Lake Windermere - I do not know what type of engine it is but I have included a 1924 pic of a vary similar type - I hope the trains brakes worked when it arrived back at the lake..

Lovely capture of a great piece of engineering. looks like they've done a good restoration job here. All it needs is a big smiley face on the front:-)

I've seen this engine somewhere else. I wonder if it's one of those privately-owned engines that people 'lend' to preserved steam lines. Unless I'm mistaken, badly, it's a 4-6-2T from the old LMS that served suburban London. However, in this photo, it's been restored to its old BR livery with the 'unicycling lion' logo. The postcard looks like an old LNER 'Atlantic' or 'Pacific' type engine used for mainline/long-distance hauls. Probably more than you wanted, but you have a SUPERB capture of one of my favorite topic: obsolete, noisey equipment that works well! ;-)
