Description

This is my first official image done in Painter 8, and the beginning of a whole-hearted attempt to learn something new. It's roughly based on the "painting faces" tutorial given in Don Seegmiller's book, "Digital Character Design and Painting" (Thank's Stacey *winks*). I realize the image is rough and unfinished, but I kinda got stuck, and decided it was best to move on. This type of work is relatively new to me, and I am starving for more information on painting...anything.. figures, trees, clouds, ect... If you have anything to offer, suggest, add or comment.. please do :o) *hugs* Jane

The hair is good (but I expected that from your poser postwork stuff I've seen). Where the hair blends to the forehead is very good in my opinion. The face has real character - would be nice to see more of the pose. Good stuff :)

You did such a lovely job for your first Painter piece. Love her soft features. Truely beautiful.

Excellent for a first try! I love Painter 8 too, but find little time to delve deeply into it for such artwork. Perhaps someday, when I'm retired and have lots more time on my hands. Good luck with your future endeavors in Painter 8. :o)

Nice work. Great palette. The skin is so smoothe. There are a couple of things that need work though. They have to do with anatomy. The top of the head is too small. It need more mass - just another lump of hair at the very top where it dips down could be all you need. It dips too early, the way you have it now. Also the ear is set too far back from the rest of the face. Move it in a little and it'll be great. Adjusting those two things alone would make for a tremendous improvement. Keep it up.

Hey, I knew it was from his book as soon as I saw this. Wow, you have done one heck of a fine job following his lessons. You going to attempt the one at the end of the book? The Red Queen. You have done a remarkable job, please lets see more!!

a great start, the only thing that needs touching up is the anatomy. The jaw is much to long in relation to the whole head.

This shines! I wouldn't worry much about the "roughness" nor the tips about anatomy some have pointed out. The overall impact is most important and this is great. Keep up the good work!

Jane, Thats gorgeous. I think the few anatomical flaws, and and roughness give her some character, and unique style, congrats on a successful painter 8 first. vote larry

Pretty colours! :) I would highly recommend drawing from life. If nothing else, get a mirror and start doing self portraits. It's really vital to nailing down anatomy. Good luck!

I see you went with the blue afterall,I'd like to see this with a darker backrgound ..lol..Kinda liked that Plum color you orginally had..maybe the ear and surrounding hair needs work too?the ear seems not to fit the rest of the image, but with such an adorable style its hard to know what to crit..and it is a really cool style, stay with it Janey:)

This is your first attempt ??? Jeez.. I wish I could be half as good. It has a wonderful atmosphere to it, which, in my opinion, is only enhanced by the slightly unconventional anatomy. It has a touch of magic to it :o) Well done hugs

This is great. It's like when the universe stopped making big gaseous clouds and started forming stars.
