Description

Well, I actually did get out the door today for a short time, in between the rain bands from the storm. I was walking around and looking for something to photograph, and then I saw this guy a Monarch Butterfly (Danaus plexippus). So i had to get my up close lenses off quick and reset it for telephoto, cause he flew past me and landed in a tree about 10 feet up. I was pretty happy, since it was the first Monarch I had seen all year for some reason. Yes it is a Monarch and not a Viceroy. A Viceroy has a black line that goes across its its hind wing. Hope you enjoy.

A beautiful Monarch! They are so few any more. The last one I saw had a band on it. It shows up so clearly with the contrasting colors. Nice shot!

Excellent capture, I tried to catch a butterfly the other day... was too fast for me, it kept dodging and weaving, so after 20 min. or so I gave up!!
