Description
A Martian sky patrol ship's defencive screens flash red while being attacked by the Borg.

looks good. try using a round parallel light for you laser blasts. size it to the right diameter you need then in the light lab, give it these properties: no falloff, infinate light, visible object+(volume). Then check the use gel button and click on the procedural button to go to the mat editor. Then simply add one of the 4 standard volume mats that were made for this effect. I believe you used the green on in this render. I hope this helps to make more realistic light beams for you in your work.

This is a pretty cool scene. The only suggestion I would make would be to break up the shadows to imply the depth of the clouds below. Unfortunately, being a novice, I have no idea how this would be achieved.
