whilst trying out mental ray for the marble animation, I did a few primitives tests; this is just one that came out pretty juicily: ramp shader default with purple/blue colours and lambert floor. Hope you like, S.

wow, that's 3 fantastics in 2 comments! Thanks. Sorry I keep posting such simple modelling examples - but I really like the effects of HDRI on spheres and can't bring myself to stop rendering! Sam.

I'd like to say something beyond your comprehension, but it's just a poser model put into maya - his fingers were just millimeters from the camera view.
