Description

My niece Liz, an artist, brought her friend Linda over for a visit and Linda agreed to allow me to practice on her. This is an early shot taken while Liz and I were babbling on about photography and Linda sat placidly enduring our conversation. Technically lacking, but fairly close to the soft, casual and relaxed style that appeals to me. Rookie Observations. 1. A greater appreciation has developed for those who do well at this, getting both a good technical shot and the desired expression/posture/feel. 2. The significant loss of quality after resizing a pic for upload is frustrating. 3. How the same pic can look ok in PSP 8.1 and darker/grainer in ACDSee...whichever does the world see? 4. That sure is an ugly chair. Thanks folks.

Ok, here are my rookie observations: 1) soft lighting is perfect. you always do wonders with light. 2) i love the naturalness and ease Linda conveys. 3) i don't find chair ugly. 4) i have come this close to IM messaging you, asking you WHEN are you gonna upload again!!!!! ...well Jim - you have caught something here - her thoughtful-inward gazing expression and accompanying toying with her hair -- and the general mood I like -- maybe some of the details in her clothing and foreground distact a bit - but you're homing in on something here that bodes well for future portraits I think.
