Description

Well this is my first attempt at making a true photoreal interior. Everything in the scene had been created and setup by me. I hope you guys like it :) Enjoy

Getting there. The DOF looks a off...was this done in post? Anyway, very nice image. I think you are close. the modeling is simple and very well done.

I must say, that's one of the best photorealistic attempts I've seen in a long time. Definitely successful. True, the DOF is interesting, but not at all a detraction from the image. Great work.

Thanks for the feed back guys :) yeah the DOF is post work but i used a depth map to create it so i can easily adjust the blur while keeping an accurate effect. I think you guys are all correct i did over do the blur abit. The lighting and texturing had probably taken the longest to todo, the modeling was not difficult, though i really could have made some objects for the table and walls.

Something I forgot to mention earlier, the cutlery could definietly do with some more reflection and caustics. But I guess thats just me and what I am use to seeing.

very nice image my only gripe is that there is far too much depth of field in the image, and the shadows are a bit too hard edged. (try maybe using more lights to soften the shadows....or use Radiosity)

OK, I'm brand new to 3D artwork (traditional art, and 2d Photoshop, photography is my background), and I love all of the stuff I've seen on this site, including this image. The only comment I have (from a purely "helpful" critique standpoint :), is that the depth of field is wrong. I love DOF effects in photography, but the camera you've used in this scene is a wide-angle camera (in the neighborhood of about a 20mm lens in 35mm format, it looks like). Wide-angle lenses by their very nature have a HUGE DOF, and are in focus pretty much from the foreground to infinity. Just trying to help... :) If you want to use DOF effects, you need to view it through a longer telephoto-type lens. You can set the aperture wide open on a wide-angle lens, and you still could never get this much blur. -John

That's pretty bad ass real! :) Good job man... I don't think you OVER did it on the blur, but I would recommend you get farmiliar with doing multi pass DOF attempts like 3d studio has... sorry I am not farmiliar with Lightwave :( you can see what I mean at my image called "grooming" under the 3DS Max gallery. :) Very good image. Kudos.

I visited your gallery and this image for some times now, and I think its time to comment: This IS one of the best 3D I've seen here. Of course this is personal taste but for me its very true. Don't now what else to say than: This has something (and pretty much of that something... :-) And, I like the heavy blurred back of the scene alot. It suits the style of the scene most perfect. Gives nearly a 3D/2D/Design crossover. Wonderful.

Second the call on more reflections and caustics on the cutlery. Interesting points on DOF. Fair comments on the hard edged shadows... so when are you going to treat us to an upgraded image? :) Beautiful work.

I really like the graphic nature of the image, the camera angle, sparse walls and the use of colour. I can imagine a family or Armish folk sitting down for dinner at this table 8D keep up the good work!

I think its great. Did you used Radiosity?

nick2k

4:25PM | Mon, 08 October 2001

Nope i didnt use radiosity, i an area light, one main spotlight with a huge cone angle and a light array surronding the room to simulate radiosity with the bottom row of lights coloured the same as the carpet to produce bounce light. Kinda of a complicated light set up but it saved on the huge rendering times of radiosity.

i hawe not read what the others hawe said but my opinion is that the flor are off it does not look real at all and the forks/knifes are a little bit off to i would like a more metal look on them but every thing else is soo sweet the dof looks cool you can get that with a camera if you want so it's just cool it gives the image a hangover in the morning look :)

i think the overdone dof make this special. some of the 3d renders look not artsy enough, but with this dof this image looks real stunning. i completly agree with t3.

I would just add some reflections to the cutlery. But what am I saying - it's all very well done!

most of the time, you can have all the spotlights and area lights in the world, but the truth is nothing comes close to radiosity when to trying to achieve photorealism. also, the models look like miniatures. try a different camera angle, and if you want to add depth in lightwave rather than in post, try using digital confusion instead of dof. it may help.

The first attempt?! Masterful and mature!
