The ship is sitting too low in the water. It needs to be raised up a little. If there was any kind of activity of the water, it would be flowing into the lower ports and sinking the ship. Here is a site that has artists who paint ships, including this one, that pride themselves on researching the subject in order to portray ships accurately: www.scrimshawgallery/Online Gallery/Paintings and Prints. Check out the artist, Geoff Hunt. His paintings of HMS Victory and other ships are excellent. His works have been used on all the Patrick O'Brian novels and the director of "Master and Commander" used his paintings to get camera angle ideas for the film.
