Description
Here are couple of Nene's, our State bird. This species number around 800 now. It's numbers use to be in the thousands, but hunting them and natural predetors have diminished their numbers drastically. Today the are federally protected and can be found on the Big Island, Maui, and Kauai at altitudes of 4,000 ft. or more. We came across this pair sitting just off the edge of the road in Volcano National Park on the Big Island.
