Description
Well, I've officially made the switch from Maya to Cinema 4D. While waiting for a film I'm working on to go into post production I decided to demo other programs in search of the best tools to pull off the effects needed for the film. It didn't take long before I realized that Cinema 4D is probably the easiest 3D app to learn that I've ever seen. Not only did I find my solution for the film in Cinema 4D, I found a 3D app that I could not be happier with.
This is my first model I've modeled and textured in Cinema 4D. Thanks to C4D's ease of use this was possible after only three weeks of training.

Nice model, welcome to the fold.

Thanks, soapy. Happy to be a part of the C4D community. :)

Very nice crud! how much of the texture is photoshop, and how much is procedural?
amapitodd
The pump body is all Photoshop. The pump handle (close-up) is mostly procedural. God I love C4D!

Really rusty pump you've created, have a hunh you'll end up in the photorealistic dpt if you keep that up. :)

Wow, I am more than green to C4D, so, apart from tech comments, I must say that I love the way it looks! Great work!

Thanks everyone for your kind words. If anyone is interested in Cinema 4D I would recommend checking out www.c4dcafe.com. It is an excellent site for great tutorials and a very active community of C4D users.

I know this comment is late :) But I agree with you amapitodd, C4D is the bomb! I know Maya can do some fantastic things too and likewise 3DS Max, but for ease of use and downright fun, Cinema 4D is the app!! I can't be more plaeased with C4D, especially now that I have version 9. I use it as my one and only 3d app in my career as a digital artist for TV broadcast, and it's pulled through all the time for me. :D

Those textures are spot on!

I also have a late comment to this finely aged textured gas pump, as browseing thru your gallery it is obvious that you like to tweak the mats, i have been seriously thinking in making a major switch to C4d my self, also do you use Amapi model design only judgeing by your call name ?
amapitodd
Sorry about my real late reply. But, yes, I started out on Amapi in the beginning. I moved over to Modo several years ago. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic has slowed down and I haven't put much work into 3D in a while. I'm mainly a filmmaker these days, and I rely heavily on third party 3D environments for my films. One day I hope to be more productive in 3D again. Thanks for your kind words.

Maya is good. C4D is good. I prefer using mutiple apps. Each has their own specialty. Love the old gas pump mesh and texture detail.

Nice texture work. This thing reminds me of something from my childhood! Guess I'm dating myself a bit with that admission!
