Description

Hans looked out at his beloved Falcon. They had been through a lot together but this would be the most dangerous run yet. He knew there was a good chance he could lose her on this one and yet he knew he wouldn't trust this mission or his life to any other ship. Bathed in the floodlight of the maintenance cavern she looked ready - they were both ready... My first VUE5 render using Global Illumination. There is minimal postwaork don on thsi image apart from a little blurring of the background to give some sense of depth. Models are from various Sci-fi sites. Please feel free to comment - positive or negative - thats how we learn! Thanks for looking

GI is extremely effective in realism. (I was just wondering if blur was necesary ? I am not sure it helps feeling the scale... not negative just personal :)) Impressive image!

The GI works well, the entire scene is quite convincing. The DOF should be much weaker, IMHO, as it is now the scene looks a little like a toy story.

In Star Wars nerd-speak, this must refer to the infamous Kessel Spice Run, wherein The Falcoln ditched it's cargo of spice to drop weight, then shaved in unusually close to a trinary black hole grouping, thus justifying the "I made the Kessel run in under 3 parsecs". The act brought Han dangerously close to the event horizons, but the Falcoln was fast enough to escape gravity's pull. Jabba the Hut was unhappy with the loss of his precious spice, and placed a bounty on Solo's head.

Em - thanks for the detail TimeDancer but I really wasn't referring to any one incident - just made that up to try and describe the scene. And thanks to teh rest of you for your comments - will have to try harder to try and achieve my goal of photorealism.

Great scene - GI looks very well - but you should not blur the background - it gives the impression that your scene is a small model. Use blur only for microscenes.
