Description

I think that this will be one of the last bug shots I will post for quite sometime. Winter will set in soon... Friends are always whining to me that I post too many shots of bugs. Specifically females. Booooooooo..... :( I have a wide range of images in my gallery...it's to bad I can't shuffle them all up as there are long stints of specific genres. I am partial to the insect images because they are more challenging to produce (it's frickin' hard to get this close to a fly) and they give one a magnified window into a whole other realm of life. I hope you like....or dislike very much. :)

Oh man, that is close.I know what you mean, the photo I have of one of these was as close as I could get before it would fly away. Just an excellent capture and job for sure here.

I'm amazed by the colors of something as common as a fly...but then again Nature isn't common. Keep shooting them Matt, this is great!!!

I agree with you about the bugs n bees and buttys...... they are a macro challenge as they give you very little time to wait for perfect light, exposure and angle. You miss it or hit it sorta......... :O)) This one is cool, can almost count all the hair on its back, lmao!!:O))

My poor dog.... you've seen him before in photos here... recently had a blow fly maggot removed from his leg. It was alive and living under my dogs skin, crawling around and eating the flesh in his leg.... I almost puked when the vet pulled it out with tweezers.... Needless to say I don't look at flies in quite the same way anymore.

Aren't flies an amazing paradox? They're annoying, the carry disease and hover over death-- virtually everthing about their whole life cycle is disgusting and repellent. And yet, look at the amazing iridescent colors on it, and the marvelous intricacy of those compound eyes and superbly crafted wings. Finding beauty in all creation, hidden like gems in the midst of passing ugliness is a photographer's unique job.

Just marvelous! though if it was on my salad I wouldn't say so of course, but in Your "portrait" it looks superb. Especially like the color contrasts (as if part of the image is b'n'w).
