Description

In 1926, the German-made silent film "Metropolis" was released, directed by Fritz Lang. This model and image were inspired by a robot called "Hel" from that film, also known as the "False Maria". I don't know if she was the first cinematic robot, but definitely an early one. :^) She was also the inspiration for C3PO from "Star Wars". Bryce5, Poser4, Wings3d, Photoshop Elements 1, and a partridge in a pear tree. Thanks for looking, John

It's a great model job of Lang's creation, also one of my favorites. VOTE I always thought she was silver for some reason though (the movie of course, is in black and white). She was also known as the false Maria because she was transformed into a human-looking doppleganger of Maria (the film's heroine) in an FX sequenze that amazed audiences of that day. Metropolis itself, a dark, "Orwellian future" story, is often credited as the very first feature-length science fiction film in general, and has amazing "future city" miniature set shots in it. This robot form is also rumored to have inspired "Sexy Robot", an animated short that is frquently credited as the very first film animated CG human in the early 1980's and which was widely copied for TV commercials and music videos. Awesome work, tjohn!! Would love to see the model in Freestuff (I'd tell you to sell it, but clearly it's a trademark character).

WOW!! Doesn't even cover it. This is amazing. I don't care if you had to use everything plus the kitchen sink to get it modelled, it's a pure work of art. Best image I've seen today. OK, I've only just started looking, but it's still a fantastic image and... yes, I'm gonna vote for it.
