Description

Parade Bedchamber Designed as the focus of the palace, the Parade Bedchamber is the most magnificent room in Herrenchiemsee, and possibly the most magnificent room built for Ludwig II. It was created as a monument, and even a shrine, to the court of Louis XIV and never intended to be used. This room also should remind of the french etikette: the first and last audience of a day was used to be done in bed! The used red should remind to a sunrise. The incredible wall-hangings of red velvet embroided with gold thread were created by 30 or 40 women working for seven years. For the gold area about 2500 qm (in the whole castle) they have used only 2,5 kg gold. Dimension: 14.00m x 12.26m = 171.64m

Well to be fair to Ludwig: He was spending his own money and providing employment for artisans during a depression thus helping the economy and providing posterity with some really spiffy stuff to gawk at. As I said to one of the tour guides: The king had real style. (Got any shots of the Tea Kiosk at Linderhof? All my pictures are ... somewhere.)

As weesel states, it improved employment! But what a luxury! I'd love just to hop in my own bed! :) Excellent work, Rita!
