Ah yes, I had forgotten about apartment living until you so graciously reminded me of this. I think the stove in our first apartment did the same thing. :o)

"Horrorific, low budget splendor" sounds great to me.When you use the stove in such apartments for heating you get something similar to the depiction here, pulsating waves of heat generated by the inspiration/aspiration of air through the leaky insulation. Truly creative low budget gif.

The glow & boil are great! The only thing is the whole image shifting, looks like your washer on spin cycle! ;) But so what? It is still very efective!
