You have painted a picture of an idea. Is man good or bad? Well . . . the answer is "yes." We have BOTH natures in us, and we choose what we will be come. Look at Platon Karatayev in "War and Peace," who prefigured Victor Frankle in the concentrarion camps. We live independant of our environment. If not, men would be mere molecules.
