Description

We could think of time as a river ... a river that is implacable, always moving, never returning. For us, it moves far too swiftly. The land, the stones, and the mountains might have a different perspective -- not as hurried and a longer view. The rocks in this image experienced a time of motion, of change ... but not recently. Perhaps at some time in the future, that journey could resume. That river of time could give movement to that rock again. Perhaps some others that are also waiting. This image was captured in an area that was touched by glacial forces until about 10,000 to 12,000 years ago. Glacial erratics are stones that became embedded in the glacial ice and flowed with it from north to south. The size does not seem to present a problem to the glaciers -- this one is about 2x to 3x the size of a VW "bug"; the largest one in North America weighs 4,662 tons. They are recognizable by how they differ from the neighboring soil or rocks as well as striations or grooves cut into the sides by grinding against other rocks while being moved by the glacial ice. Equipment was a Nikon Coolpix 4300; automatic exposure; 2272x1704 pixels; high image quality; tripod. Site conditions were Full overcast; noon; the site was damp following light rain and morning mist. The only postwork was to crop and resize in Photoshop 7. Thank you very much for viewing. I appreciate each and every comment that is made -- progress depends on criticism and advice as well as praise.
