Description
One of the earliest cases of reported vampirism is that of Countess Elizabeth Bathory. Believing that the fountain of youth so to speak was bathing in the blood of young virgins. Her crimes did not go unnoticed - at her trial in December 30, 1610 it was reveiled from a ledger she kept in her living quarters that she was responsible for the death of 650 girls some of noble birth.
She was condemned to stay in her bed chamber - stonemasons were brought in to cover windows and doors- a little window was kept so that food could be passed to her.
In 1614,, four years after being walled up, the countess was found dead at the age of 54.

Oh my goodness. This is one very beautiful thing. Easy to see how, if she looked like this, she could lure the unexpecting victims. Great story, even better image. Excellent, excellent job. Voting Yes!

Wow, how can someone sooooo beautiful be so deranged?! Even though she is a beauty, you have captured something sininster in her eyes. A wonderful render. So lifelike. You have made her so beautiful, dying by her bite might not be such a bad way to go!

When I read that bit of history, my first reaction was: How could 650 girls go missing without parental reaction, gossip in the castle leading to suspicion much sooner, and of course the obvious...who cleaned up that mess? No indoor plumbing so blood was cleaned out from vessels/tubs by the staff (with no one going to the authorities? she was only a Countess, pretty low on the royalty circuit) Do you know how hard blood is to clean up without running water? The stench when seeping into stone flooring? Yikes! Talk about deaf and dumb back then! LOL Beautiful and hypnotic portrait!!

Yes exactly Blue!! Everytime I read about her I am amazed that she wasn't caught sooner. This is where I got my information from, and there are plenty of other sites out there. She was the only one not condemned for execution because of who she was and who she knew, her four other accomplices however were condemned to death. Here is the link for those interested in the morbid and horrific tale...http://hjem.get2net.dk/the_cellar/bathory.htm
