This is an elegant piece of work. I like it too. The camera view looking down is a little unusual and works well.

The screw is on peace (HyperNURBS) but the hole in the base is made with Boole. The screw thread is made by Twist Deformer. The threads part of object is like cube so with Twist Deformer it looks like threads.
