Description

Technically this is the wrong side of the Arch (heading out of instead of into the US) but I couldn't find a good picture of it from the other direction, so I just switched the flags around and blotted out the buildings behind the Arch (immediately recognizeable to anyone who passes through the border at Blaine, WA with any regularity). I pass by this arch every few weeks on my way to visit my fiancee, and today, for obvious reasons, this idea occurred to me. Sufficient to amuse me and bring me to some extent out of my post-electoral funk. Comments welcome, but please no anti-anyone venom or political commentary of any kind (that goes for you Democrats out there too). Only comments on the art, please. Thanks to Naomi Druery for the picture I stole and shamelessly mutilated.

The funny thing is I didn't notice the Dante(not the guy from Devil May Cry, sheesh) quotation until I looked at the image for a good 3 minutes. Well, I wouldn't exactly call the US hell, but the people there aren't quite as nice as Canadians.

Don't mean to "bash" but if you find it so bad here why not pass thru. the arch and stay?

I plan to, no worries. There are just a couple of bureaucratic hassles in the way that we're seeking to circumvent...

This is a democracy, the people have spoken! Deal with it.

sigh I said no political commentary, but since someone has seen fit to ignore me... Strictly speaking, that isn't true. Less than half the people have spoken, and of those, only half were actually heard. This is not a democracy, it is a republic; in a democracy, government is an open forum in which all citizens are entitled to conduct the business of government--to speak in assembly and have their words and views weighed by all. In a republic, this duty must be entrusted to representatives--the key word of that being 'trust.' However, if two representatives are decided between by a simple majority, the voices that comprise the minority--which may be as much as 49.9%--are forced to rely upon a choice that they do not trust. This system has never been perfect, but when it allows a proven incompetent to continue to shape the nation's destiny, its imperfections are made all the more clear. So please, do not tell me that the outcome of this or any election is the will of the people. I am one of the people, and like roughly half those who have spoken, I said 'no.' But my voice was not heard. That being said, PLEASE ONLY COMMENT ON THE ART! If you want to argue politics, PM me and I'll be happy to debate, but not here. I made this image because it amused me, and I want comments on it and my artistic abilities, not my political views.
