Description

If there was a way to be absolutely sure that you could be a stranger where you are things wouldn't appear to be so mundane. You can walk down the same street, at the same time of day as you have day after day and be assured that something new will be seen that hadn't crossed your eyes before. I find this to be particularly true after all the snow has melted away exposing unwanted treasures that lingered beneath it. Carry with you a large book you have never read, but others have claimed it to be a necessity; a dictionary perhaps. Most importantly carry an umbrella at all times. You should also carry a small notepad and a pencil along for the need to jot down information that may come as a result of needing the directions to the post office. Be sure that you are a block away from the post office when inquiring about the directions to get there. When the directions are given; most likely by a pointing hand; do not look in that direction without first jotting down some pertinent information. Time will become irrelevant to you as you continue to learn that being a stranger does not need to be rushed. Stand where the sun meets a shadow and look around for a change in its size. You will find company in shadows that move about you in contrast to your own. These are the things non-strangers take for granted. They are worthy of observation and they should be given a name. As you go about your day of being a stranger remind yourself that the world will change tomorrow and wonder if you will know it then. When asked for information by someone be sure to tell them, "I'm a stranger here myself". Before heading home for the day be sure to stop at the post office and buy 2 stamps from the clerk, unaware that there is a machine for such trivial purchases.
