It evolved . . . into a lot of different genres based on the amount of useless noise, categorizing Death Metal as the most amount of useless noise. Pop music has fallen to the least amount of useless noise, but still contains a certain amount of plaigarism to be considered Pop. The only valid music has been pushed to the bottom of the charts because radio stations don't think people like to hear genuinely new stuff. If I want to hear something that sounds like The Doors, I will listen to the Doors, not Smashmouth.
