Description

Reminded me of Sea Grass, the main diet of the FL manatee. They eat roughly 200 to 300 lbs a day of sea grass and other aquatic plants. There are a few main causes of manatee deaths. Red tide (which is from a naturally occuring toxin from algae), a cold snap (manatees need warm water), and the other is boaters. Manatees are large, slow moving creatures (weighing up to 3,500lbs) and cannot move out of the way fast enough when a speed boat is coming towards them. What is horrific is that the number of manatee deaths caused by boaters rises each year. If you are interested, here is a website link to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Research Institute to learn more about the plight of the Manatee. Just copy and paste! :) http://www.floridamarine.org/features/default.asp?id=1001 Manatees are endangered, and the more we know about these wonderful creatures, the more we can do to help. Thank you for your time :) Rachel

This is beautiful, the colors and the motion of the piece. Great information about the manatees, too. Poor babies....I was upset when I went to Sea World by Orlando and saw how the manatees were in this awful little pool. Manager said it was the first time he had gotten a complaint from a 'patron' about them ;)....I never went back there.

Great looking Apo, it does look like sea grass. When we lived in Florida we used to go see the manatees at Blue Springs park around Deland when they would come up the river for the winter. Very cool sight to see them hovering in the water, barely moving. The scars on their backs from the props were very visible.

Wahoo! Great to see someone else loves these little buggers. Oh I just love them to death. I am glad that you are giving people a little lesson on them. They more they know the more they will survive. As for the image, just beautiful. I know that if they saw this they would eat the screen. Wonderful Wonderful job.
