Description
This is My real Grandfather John James Deschamps
of Edmonton Alberta, of the 49th, native regiment
brb, it's almost 11am,2 min,of silence to honnor
them all,the one's that died & those who lived,
this is just one of many native's that fought
for us,but they wouldn't ever remember them,
they tired to hide what they did so bravely
& the thanks they recieved was, they were
treated like dirt, they are only now getting some
of what they all earned, to be remembered like the rest, I just got this photo of him last
year, I didn't know him, but I'm told
I have aunts & uncles, my family won't
tell me much about him,so if anyone knows
of him,or his family please let me know
he was of blackfoot nation,he died in 1960
had a brother Tom Joseph Deschamps
you can e-mail me or im me, thanks for stoping by

Beautiful tribute to your grandfather. One reason we must be so proud and carry our voices in honor of our Elders and Ancestors...."this is just one of many native's that fought for us,but they wouldn't ever remember them, they tired to hide what they did so bravely & the thanks they recieved was, they were treated like dirt".

Beautiful image and dedication to your ancestor. It is sad when people are not recognized for their accomplishments just because of race or sex or whatever. Lets hope we move forward as a race. hmmm.. Love the photo and frame you used. I collect old photos like that. Excellent work!

super job

Super job, Tina. One of the things I noticed is that many of my relatives who served WON'T talk about what happened. I suppose it's their way of coping, but it deprives us of a fuller appreciation of what they accomplished. Difficult to get others who knew them to open up as well. Must be some bad memories in there. Too bad we can't find a happy medium to get the stories.

Awesome image and tribute . It is truely cool to remember the ones that seem to be forgotten .Pretty sad that a man can die or fight for a country and not be remembered because of race .So glad we are over comming that. I thank him for what he did for us ,Real hero in my book

Very nice and interesting! Nice post work too. I wish i had one of my grandfather too. To Weesel: They do not talk about it because you wouldn't understand and you would tend to misjudge them for what they did and what they have seen. Their silence is their way to respect the wedge between most people and themself. ;)
