Description

This is my envisioning of what could happen now that President Bush will be pushing (again) for opening up the Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge for oil drilling. The home to caribou, polar bears, and such, this pristine wilderness is in danger of a possible disaster such as I depict here. The chances of it happening? Probably quite small...but why take the chance? My own humble opinion is that reduction of foreign oil use would be better achieved through more aggressive increases in fuel efficiency and alternative fuel sources. I mean no offense to anyone, especially supporters of President Bush, but I'm an environmentalist and scientist and can see other ways to achieve energy independence that don't require additional sources of oil. I'll get off my soapbox now... Terrain is LutzB's mare aeternus, available from Martin J. Birk's website: www.alienskins.com I hope you enjoy, and thanks to all who commented on my first fractal yesterday, Flame Dragon . I really appreciate it! --Mike

Very nice picture! And indeed it does look like crude on the beach, but thankfully here there don't appear to be any casualties. Your surfacing shows fine attention to detail and the high contrast makes for a dramatic picture. Well done.

I agree with you Michael, our world is in a dither. I hope that the upcoming generations will straighten things out. I've used this terrain also and made a very good render with it. Your work here is excellent!

An effective visual to support your perspective. The terrain and surfaces are amazing, and I like the dark sky and overall atmosphere. Excellent polluted water and overall image.

Truely a beautiful creatin. The shoreline is so amazing to me. So realistic. And as to your comment. I must agree that there is technologies that are present to achieve more efficient use of our resources, and alternative energy sources. But we all know that money is the issue, and that being smart is always taking the back seat to corporate greed. I'll get off my soap box too now. Excellent art..way to go.:)

Excellent work. I forget which American Native said, "When we spit on the Earth we spit on ourselves." Thanks for the inspiring artwork, Mike.

Really well done! :-) (oil technologies should be obsolete since a long time, of course we know and there's a lot to be done ...)
