Description

For my son Daniel and the 278th ACR On Thursday, Nov 11th, 2004, 3000 soldiers from the 278th ACR lined up to say goodbye as they prepared to leave for Iraq. My son Daniel was among them. I felt their strength and their bravery as they stood there with their heads held high. The pride and the admiration that I felt is something I dont think that I could ever put into words. It doesn't matter what you believe as far as the war goes, but what does matter is that we support these brave troops with all our hearts and souls. So Godspeed and may all the angels in heaven surround you and bring you back safely to us. You are the light in our life and our hearts our filled with love. I ask that you all remember them in your thoughts and prayers as they set out on this journey. And love Is not the easy thing The only baggage That you can bring Not the easy thing The only baggage you can bring Is all that you can't leave behind And if the darkness is to keep us apart And if the daylight feels like it's a long way off And if your glass heart should crack And for a second you turn back Oh no, be strong Walk on Walk on What you got, they can't steal it No they can't even feel it Walk on Walk on Stay safe tonight You're packing a suitcase for a place None of us has been A place that has to be believed To be seen You could have flown away A singing bird In an open cage Who will only fly Only fly for freedom Walk on Walk on What you got You can't deny it Can't sell it or buy it Walk on Walk on You stay safe tonight (lyrics by U2)

I give you the best that is in the M-3 and the BPW carried by some. Whether the ACR travelled by C-17 or by sea they should be without shortages. The C-9's no longer take them to Germany or distribute when they are injured. I fought my battles with the media and with congress that the hardware would look like it does. Now I am pleased to see these men in such fine array. You can be very proud and reassured.

I stand here at the brink of the edge of tears. Bravery and Courage are too weak words for me to use for these brave men and women, not only for this group but for those there now, those who have gone and returned and those yet to make the trip. My gratitude, my hopes and dreams all rest with each and every troop. I am there in spirit with you, and I make those that protect you. I am here for you behind the lines. And in your arms know that I will fire true. Godspeed...may that which I have made, protect you. And help you make that trip home. Thank you Kate. It brings to me a closeness to them. Thank you.

Wow, Hon, I am moved to tears. Most of my life has revolved around the military. My stepdad was in the navy and I later became involved with men in the army and navy. One of which I married. It's a hard life. Harder than most people know. There is nothing more heartbreaking than seeing them line up like that, and yet, at the same time fills your heart with so much pride...May the Gods watch over you son and the rest of his crew. And may the angels watch over him as he sleeps...Hugz & Kisses, Melissa

Excellent shot, and the poem so moving.I got goosebumps reading it. May God and his angels surround him, and bring him safely home. As well as all the other soldiers in this picture. I dont' agree with this war, and I support our troops. The men and women who are brave to go to unknown shores. I support we bring them all home.

The range of emotions this image brings forth is unreal. The pride in these young men and women who go forth to keep us and the world a safer place to raise our families. God Bless them all and may they all come home safe, and by God with their heads held high!!
