Very cool! I love NIN (though HLAH is one of the most over-played songs ever, and I think one of his weaker songs)... I love the concept of this and the odd texture, as if he were painted sand.

to my eyes, it seems almost as if the symbolic mind is set within a ruined structure of sorts - the "archways" of filtered light, hint of greens from a jungle [fertility] beyond and not accessible... the deep recessed self we keep sometimes imprisoned, sometimes entombed & sometimes held in unblinking clarity, within ourselves... I think I tend to agere with you cagewench on the song, however, for me it was fitting, and, it was the first time somebody expressed angst in such a way that it reached the musical global community, and said "NO". There were aspects in the lyrics that most people don't relate to that wound up being related to universally. Giana, my love, you are dead accurate....you just kind of read the mind inside this...HI BACK!
