Once upon a time, two races lived in the ocean. There were the happy, frolicking and childlike merpeople, with their long fishtails, streaming hair and well-endowed, if somewhat soft and rounded, humanlike upper bodies. They spent all their days playing in the water and living carefree lives. And then there were the sea nymphs, a proud, warlike race, with two scaled legs ending in flippers and and strong upper bodies. They patroled their territories and ruled the ocean floor. Then one day, a young mermaid played too far from home, swimming out beyond where any of her people had gone before. And there she came across a sea nymph patrolling the outskirts of their territory. Never before had one seen such as the other and they paused a moment, studying the other creature. What became of this chance moment, deep down in the depths of the ocean? We may never know.
