I must have missed the news bulletin. I recognize the Canadian and UN flags, and that they are at half staff. But who died? And what's the other flag?

Thousands have died,Nov 11 is Remembrance Day here in Canada.The other flag is my branch of the military EME. Thanks for viewing.
