Description

One from the vault. I was cleaning my hard drive today (a quiet way to kill some time on a lazy, chilly Sunday), and found this image tucked away. The Character is original: his name is Raven Knight and I created him two years ago to play in a few games of the MARVEL SUPER HEROES RPG. I asked a friend of mine, professional artist GARY BARKER, to whip up a sketch for me. This is one of two he delivered. Gary Barker, by the way, is a professional artist who is currently doing the Sunday art for the comic strip, GARFIELD. Jim Davis writes most of the material, but he hasn't actually done the full art chores on Garfield for a few years (if you search for Gary's name at amazon.com, you'll find him listed under some of the Garfield books). This is a standard practice for lots of comics strips, by the way. Most of them use assistants or ghosts to help keep things on track. Anyway, Gary did the artwork based on my vague description of the character. I then colored it in Photoshop. I only played the game three or four times, and this sketch has been sitting on my hard drive, unseen, until now. Hope you enjoy it!

Reminds me of NightHawk (I think that was his name) from Marvel's Supremes. Neat character though.

Your absolutely right Teyon. This is almost a clone of NightHawk, the leader of the defunct Marvel group DEFENDERS, who's popularity reached it's peak in the late 70's - early to mid 80's. Aside from the Defender issues, you can find NightHawk in the original volume of the Marvel Universe Handbook, which gives a complete history. Even though I can't appreciate the claimed originality, I still like this picture. Especially because it reminded me of a long forgotten hero (actually NightHawk is deceased) that had been an old favorite of mine. Thanks mmmitchel for posting your character.

Teyon is sooo right on the money! The character is Charlie Richmond, the nephew of the original Nighthawk! Keep in mind that this was just for an RPG, so I didn't bother going into the history here. In the game, Charlie was a spoiled trust-fund baby who, because of a girl, suddenly joined the Army, grew up, and is now trying to fill his uncle's wings. He was a fun character to play, and I have considered submitting him to Marvel (but I know they get sooooo many suggestions like this that I may not bother). Anyway, glad yo guys are enjoying him.
