Description

While patroling down a winding country backroad, Deputy Sheriff Dan Aaron has stumbled upon a puzzle on this fine October morning. Everything was fine, at first. The sky was clear and blue. It was a perfect fall day. Then all of a sudden, the wind stiffened sharply as the sky rapidly darkened with rapidly boiling clouds--rapid as in "not natural." The sky rained colored leaves as the front of the storm raced past Dan's vehicle, then began to subside. A short time later, he discovered an abandoned automobile. Being an antique car buff, Dan recognized it as a 1932 Aeon three-window coupe in mint condition. He whistled in amazement. You don't see one of these everyday. He got out of his patrol car and approached the antique car. Both doors were open and nobody seemed to be close by. Moreover, there didn't appear to be any trail of crushed grasses from the road to where it presently rested. Granted that in this stiff autumn wind, some of the grass would likely spring back up--especialy, if it has been here for some time. Still, there should still be plenty of evidence of the vehicle's tracks to be seen. Dan didn't think the antique had been here very long, either. No layering of dust on it. "Looks like someone plunked it down here directly from some showroom," he muttered uneasily. "I'd better call in." However, when he went back to the patrol car to call, nothing electrical worked. He couldn't even start the vehicle, which had been left running in the first place. Vexed, he waited for seven more minutes before the engine started up on its own. In the east, the sky was clearing and the wind grew weaker. He could see that the radio was working, too, but what should he tell the dispatcher? Better to be safe than laughed at, he thought. I'll just say that I've found an abandoned old car and let them make their own conclusions. Thanks for looking!!
