Description
Dreamcatcher Legend
A spider sat quitely spinning his web in the corner of a room. Each day, the old woman who lived there watched him work, quietly spinning away. One day, her grandson came in and seeing the spider, stomped over, picked up a shoe, and went to hit it.
"No," the old lady whispered, "don't hurt him."
"Grandmother, why do you protect the spider?" asked the little boy.
The old lady smiled, but did not answer. After the boy had left, the spider came up to the old woman and thanked her for saving his life. He said to her, "For many days you have watched me spin and weave my web and admired my work. In return for saving my life, I will give you a gift."
He moved away, spinning as he went, and soon the moon glistened on a magical silvery web moving gently in the window. "The night air is filled with dreams both good and bad," he said, "This web will catch the dreams as they flow by. The good dreams, knowing the way, will slip through the holes to you as you sleep below. The bad dreams, not knowing the way, become hopelessly entangled in the web and melt away with the first light of dawn."
