Jim Tetlow
Born 1974, UK
I like ambiguity in art. Uncertainty. What has to conform to the limits of our reality? Metal, glass and flesh can merge seamlessly, as if the surreal worlds and the life forms within are one and the same, and yet at odds sometimes. I rarely seek to endow my works with any "message". I am more interested in people's personal responses.
I'm a multimedia artist working in fine art (including sculpture), digital art, graphic design and various forms inbetween, also illustrating book covers and numerous CD covers. I also work in musical soundscaping, both solo and in group projects, of which there are many releases. I'd like to say a big thanks to everyone here who has supported me in my work and beyond since I began posting in June 2001. Too many to mention, you all know who you are... I'm meeting very special people here :-)
Update 01-08-05: I've been given a 4 page feature article in Issue 3 of the new media magazine Contour based in Atlanta, Georgia. The images printed very well and they did me proud.
Update 21-03-06: I've been spending the last 6 months living in New South Wales, Australia. Inspiring place! Also in the process of illustrating the book covers for a series of Japanese books called Hikishio no Toki (Time of the Ebb Tide) by Mayumura Taku - to date I've completed the first two of the five volumes. I've recently been returning to traditional media as well as producing the usual digital art, and contributed a sculptural canvas to a recent local exhibition. Link: Saatchi Gallery webspace
Update 09-01-21: I hadn't even logged in for some years. It's weird nipping back here after not even posting for 13 years, like revisiting your old school incognito. As I'm not active here anymore I wonder if anyone will even see this again besides me.

~~ Another Superb Creation And I Must Say I Get A Trapped Within Feeling ~~

Looks lit from within, I like the glassy feeling and colors.

feels claustrophobic, afflicted, heavy & must blow my nose stuffy... with some very nice lighting! :]

i feel an urge to feed the man or give him some change; I see right through him and see a lot of compassion...not uninspired at all...it's a great work with magical softness!
bevchiron
This feels really very claustrophobic to me too but there's a sense of anticipation, something waiting to break free too. Great forms & light Jim, I can see no lack of inspiration in this one ; )

agree with Cindy et al.: claustrophoby put in 2D....

this one scares me a bit... i don't know why... yeah perhaps it the fact that there seems to be something trapped...somethings tried to bind my eyes... amazing!!!

Wonderful !!!

It feels biological, a system not quite right, disassembly ... diseased ... needing help certainly. Another fantastic image!

Great piece, maybe my favorite from you! I really like this.

Wow Jim! i realy love this style of image from you. because of its ambiguity it is hard to put my finger on exactly what it is that makes this image so special. i get a sence of sadness in this image because of the dark shadow, and it also seems as if the person feels like they are fading into the background (loosing their identity perhaps). there is so much more, but it is hard for me to find the words to day what i mean. outstanding vote

I think this is absolutely incredible, Jim - and certainly inspiring, though you didn't feel inspired. I feel a certain sense of peace when I put myself in his place - in that womb-like corner......resting, preparing for the next go at something. The strange "shadow" at the top of his skull is creepy at first glance, but then points the way very surely to something I needed to know. (Sorry for the free-form blather, but I thought it might be interesting to you)

Yes, an odd one this, like an organic patchwork. It's something I can imagine seeing in a bad dream, not horrific, more baffling and disquieting with a hint of the mundane. It also reminds me of something seen from the corner of the eye, that is to say, not seen clearly. I'm blathering. Hope this makes sense? ;-)

What I see here is inner organs, intestines, and it's kinda "yuk"! But I love the colors, the light and the softness of the background! A cool but repulsive image, interesting and fascinating but also beautiful! All this yep!

this comes after "uninspiration"??? Oh my.. I wonder then what it would have been like if you'd be inspired :) I am in love with its subtle hint at decomposition.. such an elegant kind of pre death... I feel like the Nirvana could have that shape. and maybe even that colour :)

"Clot" works....the blood may have invoked that title. It almost looks like a bloody mess...but it is clean...Excellent work!

Funny, the first impression and thought in my head was" Demolition of my mind"! Then I saw ... what headspace do you find yourself in? ;-)! Great as usual and very intriguing composition!

I'm sure your music is unbleivable as well.

I'm really enjoying all the shades and tones and angles in this piece. Very cool!! :P

Yes, claustrophobic... but just about finding the way out of that, just about. The gentle flesh tones with multiple shapes are really interesting - taking me to sources of our feelings; the great ambiguity of the picture makes my words vanish to their ambiguity:-)

This is an incredibly powerful image Jim. It forces me to think of the leprous self loathing of the abused child. It is an ugly place. It is a place of pain. Truly remarkable work my friend, especially when I think about the fact that you were really not aiming for anything specific. Brilliant!

Hi beautiful picture here! color and the light .. and shadow are wonderful

this is very- "Bacon" like, and i dont mind that thing, what you can find on your double bacon whopper;-) i mean that one whose first name is Francis... dont know what reminds me an him, maybe the flesh-colors, and the odd-meatstructures...if one can call it so... great work, as usual, but i need to mention this from time to time...on some outstanding pieces of yours:D greets, fant

I think I started thinking about Francis Bacon while doing this ;-)

Claustrophobic with the festering scars still leaching pain into the surrounding tissue, marring it like a cancer, closing time into smaller spaces. Brilliant as always my friend, you are truly talented and I hope you take more hiatuses (or is that hiati?) if this is the work you produce from it ;) HUGEST HUGS Thank you so much for sharing :D

First words that comes to my mind is: Picasso's Body Works. Very strong use of color and deconstructed form. Inspirational.
