The first of a series which came immediately to my mind when I read thew following from Douglas Couplands "Generation X":
To watch him smoke a filter-tipped cigarette out in the dessert, the sweat on his face evaporating as quickly as it forms, while Claire teases the dogs with the bits of chicken at the back of the Saab
