Description
This shot was taken on my way to my house which is about half a mile to the left of this shot. I had to walk to my house from the safe zone, as all the roads were destroyed. The trip took 3 hours 15 minutes going up hill all the way, and 2 hours 45 minutes on our way down.
What is shown here is the result of pyroclastic flows which destroyed the old estate building and some of the homes of the folks who built there. Surges of hot air completed the job, blowing out windows and killing 25 natives working in the fields below. They were in that area illegally.
Thanks for looking and for not complaining about my volcano photos.
Have a great Day/night, and stay healthy.
deevee,
Joe.

another helluva shot, Joe!! Almost looks like an alien landscape with settlers trying to tame the countryside and colonize. Or.....a more realistic aftermath of an apocolyptic catastrophe...this is an image that will definitely end up in the historic archives for the area I am sure. Great photo.

That's so awful. My sister visited the island about 15 years ago and it was so lush and beautiful. Volcanos are very scary!

Wow...now that is a capture, I've never seen a volcano in person, so what surprises me is how close some people were living to this one!!! The awesome power of nature. Amazing capture =)

Well the volcano had not erupted in over 300 years so we all felt safe. What was wrong is that the 25 who lost their lives stole back into the restricted area to harvest thier crops, when the unexpected happened, and of course there is no outrunning a pyroclastic flow. If the hot ash and boulders do not get you the heat surge certainly will. It blew out windows about a mile away and incinerated cows, the only thing left from one was a jaw bone of one that this happened to. Thanks for your comments, they are really appreciated.

Oh no, this doesn't look too good. Not the photo of course, it is excellent, but the situation. Thanks for letting us participate with your photos.
