Description

The vegetable kingdom in Mars, instead of having green
for a dominant colour, is of a vivid blood-red tint. At any rate, the
seeds which the Martians (intentionally or accidentally) brought with
them gave rise in all cases to red-coloured growths. Only that known
popularly as the red weed, however, gained any footing in competition
with terrestrial forms. The red creeper was quite a transitory
growth, and few people have seen it growing. For a time, however, the
red weed grew with astonishing vigour and luxuriance.

- "They've built a flying-machine, and are learning to fly!
- "Fly?"
- "Yes," he said, "fly."
I went on into a little bower, and sat down.
- "It is all over with humanity," I said. "If they can do that they
will simply go round the world."
He nodded.
- "They will.

H.G. Wells

In 1898 when H.G. Wells wrote "The War of the Worlds", flying a machine heavier than air seems to be a fancy - just a couple years later humans discovered the secret of flight, and half century later possessed weapons much more powerful than Martian Heat-Ray. Once again reality overtook the fiction

Set and rendered with Vue 5 using radiosity, Martian vegetation created with Vue 4.5 Pro, Vue procedural clouds and spherical fuzzy clouds.

Stairs modelled in Cinema 4D
Lighthouse model by Alian Garcia, textured by me.
Man - Don from Poser
Martian flying machines based on Martian War Machines from DAZ.

Thanks nexxon for pointing out lack of pleats on clothes - I was thinking about it, but later, I forgot to correct it. It's done now - looks much better - unfortunately it's hard to get good looking clothes from Poser, usually postwork is necessary.

Amazing as is said above. Another winner. Always loved War of the Worlds, especially the musical version, where there is a song dedicated to the red weed.
