Description

First of all my apologies to my friends that have added me to their fav list. I know you got a notice earlier about a post but then I decided to delete it. Sorry for the bother. It was not bad that I dumped it. I had not typed anything wrong that I had to dump it. I don't know why..... but I was feeling somewhat restricted so I dumped the post. I was trying to explain something but I was not being very successful using one image. So, I decided to add 3 more to what I wanted to say........ in a better way. After having clicked 228 butty pics yesterday and after having added 112 more today, I think I am now in a position to comment on some of the behavious of the buttys that came to my notice. ( This is not a science lesson, please do not expect accurate scientific truth in it, it's just a laymans observation, whojust happen to be a photographer;) When a butty is in an envioremnet like this one it is collecting nector and it is working hard, not a seconds rest. I have seen these lil creatures work hard and my respect for them has grown now. Since the plants on which these buttys tend to feed themselves are placed in such a fashion that they directly face the sun, lighting is an issue for me. You will notice most of the flowers are over saturated at the centre. Also the buttys being dark, lack of light also becomes an issue. Hence, using my own self as a shadow has also not worked too well. I need to work harder, I know. Anyway back to my commentary..... These buttys hop from flower to flower and as you can notice in the bottom image left.... the centre of the flower is yellow with closed bud kinda thingys. The buttys use their straw to peirce open them and then put their straw into it to draw the nector out. This is the first time I am noticing this. Till now I have seen them just use their straw for draining out the nector. This puncturing act is new to me so I wanted to share this with you all. Another interesting observation I made was... after the buttys peirce open these yellow things and suck the nector from it, in comes the bees, all kind of..... and they start using these opened shells to feed. So these insects seem to be in some kind of harmony with each other. It was hard for me to concieve the hard working bee as beinng the one to feed on the left overs.;) Finally, something I been wanting to say or admit for a while but have not found reasonable time to give words to it. Here I go..... Honest to god ( if there is one), had it not been for RR or sites like this........... trust me, I would have been grossly misled into believing that I was the worlds best Photographer around. Luckily for RR and other such sites, I am not in any kinda hallucination of mis-conception. I know my place.;) I am sure many of you would agree with me and can relate with me. .....and I also wish to add this...... if I had had a camera half as good as many of the artists at RR and living in an the enviorenment I am in, right now..... I would have really reached those heights, thats my belief. Hence this butty collage is being dedicated to all those wonderful photographers who have set great standards in photography and whose posts and photo works are not just displays but a lesson or an inspiration for many of us. I shall refrain from naming anyone for if I start thinking there comes atleast 100 names and even after listing them out, I would be leaving out a lot many. Thanks for your views and comments. :O)) SNAKEY

dear raj... these are beautiful & a wonderful presentation, posted at the smaller size like this gives them even more clarity/sharpness... enjoyed reading your butty observations & also agree, there's always room for improvement... we set the highest standards for ourselves... still think you do a fine job of it! :] maybe Santa will come through for you this year!

A wonderful collage this is part of the joy in nature and wildlife photography in that we are always learning, the person behind the camera is the most important thing good gear helps but it is the same delusion to think someone who is rich is always happy or at an advantage!! I agree with Cynlee as on the net we all have to reduce the size down anyway.. You share your joy for me that makes you a special friend

All four are excellent shots... wish I could do this! And your presentation is superb, too! Don't think only the camera makes a great shot... it's still the person behind who makes it! What is a fantastic camera worth if you don't have a great eye for details or a feel for compo? You are right, we all can learn a lot by others here... starting on Rendo my images were poor. They still aren't great but I'm proud one can see the progress in my work ... hehe. Viewing your images for quite a while I can tell you the progress in your work is amazing! Hugz

hey Ray, great observation, excellent done! I agree with cynlee that I often thought you should present your shots in a smaller size! this posting here is so gorgeous and amazing colored! you captured the flowers AND the butties through an excellent POV! and the presentation here is breathtaking! and I also agree with akinom, we all have to learn! I know I'm not a photographer, I only want to catch memories for life and joy! and I be happy when I have the luck to get a good shot to share with you! But most I love to view all beautiful shots of other and better artists showing nature's wonder, of amazing landscapes I never will be able to visit! so keep on to enjoy me by showing butties I've never seen! Your work is fantastic and I love that you are not superficial! ;o)))))

I think these images along with your hard work and layman's observations, are interesting and very educational..and that maybe you should do a book. Maybe a series on butterflies and flowers.

What a wonderful collage, my friend!!!! these butties are fantastic!!!! I love your gallery!!! your photography gets to my heart and soul. there is more about photography than cam and technical stuff...it's about that heart and soul stuff. so many images are beautiful...but some of them i find lacking in emotion. our galleries are reflections of our heart and soul. look at mine. my photography...well, let's just say i have SO much to work on. I get very disappointed in my fotos. but i can improve. and hopefully one day i'll have better cam. anyway, i consider you one of the best photographers. your fotos touch me and i love seeing the world through your eyes...that's what i enjoy. there are some photographers who may be better technically and we can learn from them. but you've got something special in your art...it's YOU!!!!!! thank you for your info about buttys...i find it very interesting!!!!!!!! i would like to hear more! hugest hugz to u!! {{{{ }}}}}}

Oh they are all so pretty,such pretty shots. I know what you mean about taking pics of butties. I always find it so tough,cause they dont last long on a flower usually before they are on the next one. I actually have made a dvd for my grandmother of butties in action,and you can see all that you have talked about,its very cool to watch I know. Excellent capture on all and what a wonderful job here.

I agree with the above comments...if you have fun in what you are doing, then that's enough...perfection, excellent, bad...whatever, is in the eye of the beholder as the saying goes. Don't underestimate your talent...As you can see, many of us here enjoy what you do...Keep it up ;) These are all great shots btw.

Dear Raj! I can relate to what you're saying about some of the inspiring artists at RR. I havent been here a year, but I think seeing the great work here has made me raise my own standards just to keep up with some of you lol But regardless of camera equipment, and experience, I think RR is a great place to be inspired, and inspire others. And you my friend are a great inspiration to me!! Bravo for this collection of black beauties! Your butty photos brighten up the darkest day! A lovely series my friend friendly hugs
