Description

The "Association of Visual Artists Vienna Secession" was founded 1897 under the leadership of Gustav Klimt and 19 other modern artists in Vienna. They all fought against conservative art movements and created a new style, the "Art Nouveau" (Jugendstil). The Secession members commissioned the hardly 30-year-old architect Joseph Maria Olbrich, who was at the time a member of Otto Wagner's atelier, to design their own exhibition-building, which was to become a key work of the Viennese Art Nouveau. The cornerstone was laid on 28 April 1898 within the framework of a small celebration. Only six months later, on 29 October 1898, the construction was complete. On the front of the building is written their program in golden letters: "Der Zeit ihre Kunst. Der Kunst ihre Freiheit" ("For every time its art. For art its Freedom") Thank you for walking with me through Vienna !

a great image of a place I would like to visit for sure. I have a book about Klimt and saw a great xhibition of his works. Apart from the beauty of his art nouveau I admire him for his expressions (together with Schiele). Anyway; well balanced shot and I like the touch you gave it with the taxi-sign.

Hi Kurt, I have been staring at the globe at the top, not quite sure what to make of it! lol. I like the feeling I get seeing the movement of people while this beautiful and historic building remains steadfast through time. :0)

Wonderful POV and presentation. The black background really give the building the full attention it deserves. Excellent!
