Description
Late one night, I took a walk on the bayou
where Spanish moss hangs and big gators hide
Seeking LaVeau, she practices voodoo
I'd rid myself of that thorn in my side
Charles was my friend, my lover, my life
I gave him my soul, my innocence lost
he neglected to mention that he had a wife
Charles would suffer, no matter the cost
I brought LaVeau cash, a lock of his hair
fingernail clippings, a shred of his clothes
her evil chanting breath fouled the air
she cackled harshly like ten thousand crows
Entranced, her green eyes rolled back in her head
she danced as she called a spirit named Bossu
then she winked slyly at me and she said
"Chile, give 'im dis rose, dat's all you must do"
LaVeau sensed my doubt, "You question my craft?"
I mumbled, "no." and gazed down at my shoes.
shrugging her shoulders, she smirked and then laughed
"It work or it don't, you've nottin' t' lose."
I reached out my hand, accepted the flower
bid her a good night then ran from the shack
I searched for Charles for nearly an hour
knew when I saw him, there was no turning back
I smiled so sweetly and gave him the rose
the thorns tore his flesh, and blood started to run
he flinched from the pain, deep red stained his clothes
the fear in his eyes asking what I had done
He confessed his "mistake", shed a slight tear
then begged my forgiveness, said he'd leave his wife
he passionatly kissed me and held me so near
as he vowed to love me for the rest of his life
Slowly a gator crept out of the mire
snatched Charles in its jaws and swallowed that liar
