Description

I went to the City today. First time in a long while. The place was alive with people heaped up to the jaw with bags, gifts, toys. Their mobile phones pressed firmly against their ears, having a conversation with the world, or so it seemed. A normal Saturday in a large City. Then I stopped to grab a coffee from a street vendor. It was then that I saw Bob. Standing at the entrance to an Arcade, wishing people a Merry Christmas, asking if they would like to buy a magazine from him. They rushed passed, no aknowledgement, no eye contact, no polite 'no thank you', nothing, he may as well not have existed. I took this image, after buying a magazine from Bob and asking his permission. We chatted for a while. His Christmas message is: "Stay safe, stay warm, take care and thanks for your custom throughout the year" A simple, yet honest message :] 'The Big Issue' Is a magazine sold to help the homeless 'help' themselves. Bob is a vendor who buys the magazines and retains the profit sold on them. To be a vendor you have to be homeless or 'vulnerably housed' I never met Bob before today, but I have a feeling we'll meet again soon. Dean

A great capture, Dean! Bob looks so vulnerable standing in the middle of those rushing people. But what a face! Great tale to go with it too. The blurred bods are perfect.
