OK, you asked for it, after all, didn't you? Let's begin with the first pic: obviously there are no shadows here. In you render option check that shadows are active. Check your light propoerties too to define how the light will behave in your scene. As you're a Painter, you know importance of light and shadows. Use a lateral light coming from left here, this way you'll hide the texture deormation into the shadows of her hair. Add a backlight coming from back right to reveal the curves of her body. Remember that if the girl is the subject, it has to be sensuous. ;) Another thing quite boring is the background. Try some plasma fractal in dark tones, anything but plain color. Use the background to put the character slhouette in relief. The background does not need to be clear at the edges of the pic. As you ambiance is intimist, you'd better use a very very dark (even full black) background around the borders but clear enough at the center to put you character in evidence. Final point, postwork the possible render errors.
