Description

I found this mossy log in Pere Marquette State Park, near Grafton, Illinois on Sunday. It was chilly but moss doesn't care :) I saw lots of bald eagles. This area is home to one of the largest populations of bald eagles in the contiguous US during winter. Explorers Father Jacques Marquette and Louis Joliet crossed the Illinois River here after meeting with the Native Americans in the land between the rivers. The wider area is the Meeting of the Great Rivers, Missouri, Mississippi, and Illinois.
