Description
If Mars were ever to be terraformed, the most favorable locations to do so would be low lying areas such as craters or valleys. Here, the breathable atmosphere would settle. Temperatures would be warmer due to a micro-greenhouse effect, and plant life could thrive.
Successfully terraforming Mars would be a mammoth project. The technology required does not exist as of yet. The cost would bankrupt all the countries of the world combined. If such a venture were to be undertaken it would take many thousands of Earth years to complete. We would need a guarantee that the human race would be around then.
But then, I

Great concept! Nice pov, terrain and surface; very effective atmo settings for this concept!

Excellent terrain and surface-work. Maybe 2 or 3 renders with different water-heights might fill the other craters, too? Excelent atmosphere and story.

Man your latest batch of images is very other-worldly. Great stuff. A crit if I may: I'm not sure that the localized fog is doing anything for me. Maybe it's a tad too thick? Not sure. Anyway, isn't it time for another tut? LOL /gary

Terrific quality, and of course an intriguing subject. One pail of cold water to throw on it, however - - it appears that Mars lost its ancient atmosphere as a consequence of the cooling of its internal molten core, and hence the loss of its magnetic field. Fortunately for us, the Earth's molten core continues to churn away, and radiate a powerful magnetic field that protects us from the sun's blasts. But unfortunately for Mars enthusiasts, no atmosphere could last on Mars for very long, no matter how much we spent on it. With no magnetic field to protect it, it would quickly be stripped away by the solar winds. Looks like Earth is the only place we will ever have, and we'd better start protecting it.

Fantastic image on a favorite science fictional proposition. I love tales concerning terraforming, no matter how impossible the real task would be, financially, technologically (as of now) and even planetologically...Mars wouldn't exactly be the most cooperative partner in a terraforming project, but your realization of this scene is stunning and quite inspiring. I'm glad I saw it.
