Description

UF3.04>PSP7 text and optimization Thank you very much for the great feedback on Spiral Present! This piece, the colors reminded me of some of the Christmas cards from the early 60's.(I like to collect all kinds of stuff) I did a Google to make sure I was on the right track and I found these colors on many vintage objects including ornaments. I think it is mostly the pink and the light green/blue. The main composition was in browns and blues but I flipped the filters landing on the red one and voila! insta retro Christmas card! Happy 97th birthday to my Grandfather!, Peter, born this day in Meganopolis, Greece 1907. He is a photographer and I am sure many of you have seen his work. Although not a household name he is best know for his innovation of using the fisheye lens for fine art photography in the 1950's. The fisheye lens first was used for photos of clouds from airplanes during WW2 after the war he wrote Carl Zeiss who sent him a lens from which he constructed his own camera that had no viewfinder only the reflection in the lens. The early 60's brought press for this innovation with spreads in LOOK and Amerika magazines. One of his most famous photos is of the Arlington Cemetery Amphitheater...looks very much like a Escher drawing. That's a story in a nutshell but I have planned a special gallery on my website with his story and photography...coming 2005! In 1991, I co-authored a hardback book on Soviet photography which I dedicated to him...(Stewart,Tabori and Chang Publishers "PHOTO MANIFESTO"). It's out of print but there are used copies on Amazon...and get this...a "vintage" bookdealer recently sent an email with rare mint condition books in his archive and my book was on the list selling for 100 bucks! LOL! So Happy Birthday Pete! Thanks again, Chris

I can see why you are proud of him, sounds like a very talented man. Your fractal today is extra beautiful, with so many details and knockout gradient. I vaguely remember something about fisheye lens from many years ago, but do not recall the details

this is a nice retro image - also I think that if it was moved, the lighting would change - sparkles or foil, they made a simple card look very special - thanks for such a lovely image
