This reminds me of why I read the bible. In the town I grew up in no buildings except the grain elevator went above the second floor. I needed stories which covered the lives of the city people I met at the warehouses at Christmas time picking up yardgoods and food in my grandfather's truck with my uncle. Just knowing there was an even bigger city just to the East was expanding.
