Description

Just a quick exercise in modeling a low-poly destroyer. Tried making a Spruance class, but couldn't find any good plan-type pics. So I tried eyeballing it. Thus the superstructure part comes out wrong. It's still not bad practice though. I've also volunteered to try modeling a virtual model of the U.S.S. Conolly for a future Naval museum in my hometown. Seems like the organization's president is interested, so who knows...

I'd lower the deck closer to the waterline. Replace the foreward gun with a VLS missle system. Angle the bow back about 35 degrees. Spruance class, huh? MAke room for a second group of engine exhasuts somewhere.

One should really begin at a shipyard in Mississippi and the designation DD-963. Then one choses Ingalls from Lockheed and Litton who one does not know as newcomers. One thinks of 22,500 horsepower gas turbines derived from the GE-Snecma venture. Then one strips it of every electonic warfare and weapons pointing suite it has and concentrates on a simple rapid fire gun. If the Connoly is named after the Admiral who was COMFAIR Miramar in the 60's I know where you are. Subs are 1 billion each and carriers, 2 billion. Such a deal!!

I could only find some side or 3/4 photos, but there's always clutter from other ships nearby. (Which makes it tricky figuring out what mast/antenna belongs to whom.) I just need some good basic plan drawings (not low res ones, they're too pixelated.) To get the superstructure right, a good top-down view would help.
