Description

These are trees that basically starved to death because of intensely high levels of carbon-dioxide in this specific area of Mammoth Lakes, in the Sierra Mountains of California. It is believed that a shallow intrusion of magma beneath the mountain has resulted in carbon-dioxide concentrations of 20-90% in the soil, compared to a normal level of 1%. The gas interferes with the roots ability to take up oxygen and nutrients. Shot with Canon PowerShot A70. Thanks for looking!
