I wrote this in February, 2002. There are some things which I should change, but this is exactly how it was written with the information I had at the time. Americans are Tough I

I'm curious... it's not true that more ppl were killed in traffic that day than in the terrorist attack is it?

Cage, it's easy enough to look up, insurance agencies keep those numbers public. Yes, every single day thousands and thousands of americans are killed in traffic accidents, many of them alcohol related. Thousands and thousands are killed by guns, and not used by criminals, but people they know and love. (not saying the NRA is out of line, Met, just stating the facts). I don't know if any of this makes anyone stronger, more stoic, or "tough". Does say something about a mindset. I'd like to see how tough most americans would be without their TV's, microwaves, hairdryers, Giant SUV's, toilet paper, playstations, 7-11's... Watched a program where the tough question for the man on the street in LA was "what is Prince Charle's title?" and "what monarch is the 'Victorian' Era named after?". These questions were far too tough for the average person on the street. Courtesy and manners seem to be a little too tough for americans as well, making it necessary for many youth sports organizations to force parents to sign legally binding contracts simply to watch their children play games. Reading past a 6th grade level also seems to be incredibly difficult for the average person in the US. Ask an American to find Ottowa or Montreal on a map. Kracow, Gdansk, St. Petersburg, Constantinople, Oslo. Talk about tough. Pointing any of this out won't make me popular, but because my countrymen don't like to hear it doesn't make it any less of the truth.

Well written work. I think most rational people would consider America the best of the best - with it's own sets of faults to work on, imho.
